Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos sat down for couples therapy during the latest episode of Live With Kelly and Mark – despite being slammed by viewers all week for sharing too much about their ‘personal lives’ on the morning show.
Mark, 52, took over as co-host following Ryan Seacrest’s departure last week, but his on-air interactions with his wife Kelly, also 52, have been met with severe criticism.
After their first episode together premiered on Monday morning, a slew of people took to social media to bash the pair’s ‘fake banter,’ calling them ‘cringey,’ ‘phony,’ and ‘inauthentic’ – and as the show carried on throughout the week, the backlash also continued, with many viewers begging them to stop revealing intimate details about their marriage and packing on the PDA on air.
Despite fans’ pleas for the pair to cease talking about their ‘marriage all morning,’ the longtime couple – who tied the knot in 1996 after meeting on the set of All My Children – spilled even more info on their relationship during today’s episode.

Kelly and Mark were joined by their therapist, Dr. Linda Carter – who they said they’ve been speaking to for around a year – and they got real about many of the problems they’ve had to face throughout their 27-year romance and aired some of their dirty laundry live on TV.
During their conversation with Dr. Carter, Kelly asked the New York-based psychologist what couples who work together should do if they get into a fight right before heading to their jobs so they can ensure the tension doesn’t trickle over into the work place.
During their conversation with Dr. Carter, Kelly asked the New York-based psychologist what couples who work together should do if they get into a fight right before heading to their jobs
‘Let’s say a couple has an argument at home and let’s say they have to go to work together. What’s the best way to deal with that?’ she asked.
Dr. Carter responded, ‘It’s really important to have a ritual, something to tell the other person that things are fine, the argument is over, maybe by holding hands, squeezing their partner’s hand – a signal.’
‘What if the argument isn’t over though?’ Kelly continued, to which the doctor explained, ‘Then it can be a signal that says, “We’ll get back to this later but for now we’re putting it on hold.”‘
Mark then revealed that he and Kelly once had a ‘disagreement’ before they had to go to a ‘public dinner party’ together.
He said he tried to tell his wife that he was ‘done with the argument’ by doing just what she suggested, taking her hand during the event, however, his gesture was not returned.
‘What I felt on the other side of my warmth was the coldest, deadest hand,’ he said. ‘When she’s happy with me, she gives me a squeeze, a little touch.

‘[But that night] it was like a corpse. I was holding a corpse. She does it on purpose.’
During the chat, Kelly also admitted that Mark can be too clingy once in a while. After asking Dr. Carter for tips on how couples can manage being together 24/7 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the actress explained that she ‘sometimes’ struggles with that herself.

‘Sometimes, if I go into another room to get space, somebody walks in right behind me,’ she said, turning to Mark, who admitted, ‘Yeah I do that.’
But he promised that next time Kelly tells him she ‘needs a minute,’ he’s going to leave her alone.
All week, angry tweets about the show have been rolling in. Many viewers have not been happy with how much the two have been revealing about their private lives, with one person asking on Twitter after Tuesday’s episode, ‘Are you going to talk about your marriage and life at home all morning?’
Someone else said: ‘I’m sick of hearing about their perfect love, life, and family.’
‘This is the beginning of the end. Nobody cares about your personal private lives,’ another added.

After their first episode together premiered on Monday morning, a slew of people took to social media to slam the pair’s ‘fake banter,’ calling them ‘cringey,’ ‘phony,’ and ‘inauthentic’
‘The show is becoming creepy. The hand holding and the googly eyes. It’s very off putting.’
‘It’s just so weird. They seem very a unnatural, awkward, and enough of the PDA. It’s like they’re trying so hard to make it work and it’s just not hitting,’ read a fourth tweet.
Others have slammed the pair for discussing ‘mundane things’ rather than ‘real social and news issues’ – with some even calling for the series to be canceled after branding it as a ‘big fail’ and ‘painful’ to watch.
Kelly has also faced backlash for ‘interrupting’ her husband on numerous occasions.
‘I am so happy to see Mark and Kelly this morning… But Kelly, could you please let him talk? OMG,’ wrote one disgruntled viewer earlier in the week. ‘Let him start and finish a story his way… It’s the only way it’s going to work.’
Another tweeted: ‘Every time Kelly interrupts Mark, take a shot.’
‘Kelly, please let Mark finish his sentences,’ someone else begged. ‘Otherwise, this is gonna be hard to watch every day.’
Some social media users were also left outraged after it was revealed on Thursday morning that the couple only work three days a week
During the episode, the words ‘previously recorded’ were written on the screen. Live With Kelly and Mark never films live on Fridays, which means two out of the five episodes were pre-taped
‘Three day a week contract, what a joke,’ raged one person on Twitter. Someone else said, ‘It would be nice for the shows to actually be live and not prerecorded’
According to the show’s upcoming filming schedule, Kelly and Mark will indeed only be filming three days per week

During the episode, the words ‘previously recorded’ flashed across the screen. And since Live With Kelly and Mark never films live on Fridays – that means two out of the five episodes this week were taped in advance, despite the show having the word ‘live’ in its name.

Another disgruntled user wrote, ‘Fourth show and @kellymarklive already isn’t live. Why not just record five in one day and call it a week?’
According to the show’s upcoming filming schedule, Kelly and Mark will indeed only be filming three days per week.
