Kendrick Lamar bans ‘professional photographers’ from his DAMN. arena tour

American rapper Kendrick Lamar headlined Bryon Bay’s Splendour in the Grass festival on Sunday night.

And an event organiser told The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday that the Pulitzer Prize winner, 30, permitted only ‘one event photographer’ to cover the performance.

Kendrick and his management have also reportedly banned professional photographers from documenting the final leg of his DAMN. Australian arena tour.

‘Due to artist/management request we are unable to issue photo passes for any of the shows on Kendrick’s tour,’ a spokesperson said on Monday.

In February, The Guardian reported that Kendrick could possibly be following in the footsteps of other major artists who are ‘limiting online footage of gigs’ to keep fans interested in live performances.

Kendrick is finishing off his Australian tour at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Kendrick has already toured his critically acclaimed fourth album DAMN. across the UK, Europe, Canada and America.

The 2018 tour will be the musician’s fourth visit to Australia, following his last string of performances back in March 2016.

DAMN., which was released last April, won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music.

It was the first time a non-classical or jazz artist had received the accolade.

The judges remarked that DAMN. was a ‘virtuosic song collection, unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life’.

The DAMN. Tour began in July last year and will conclude in Sydney on Wednesday.
