Christina Krups, 29, was charged with wanton endangerment of a child on Wednesday
A woman has been arrested after police responded to a report that her child had been left inside a car, as temperatures in the vehicle reached 105 degrees.
Christina Krups, 29, was charged with wanton endangerment of a child on Wednesday, when police in Florence, Kentucky say she left her infant in a mall parking lot.
Witness Pat Cofield told WLWT that she was waiting in the parking lot of the Florence Mall when she saw a woman park a black BMW and peer through the rear window before dashing away into the store.
‘I knew there was a baby or an animal in that car,’ Cofield said.
When her daughter returned, Cofield, who is 80, asked her to check the vehicle to make sure everything was ok – and sure enough she spotted an infant asleep in the locked car.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Florence Mall in Florence, Kenntucky
‘And she said, “We ain’t leaving here until that baby is out of that car”,’ Cofield said.
The good Samaritans called police immediately and stayed with the car.
Cops arrived within minutes, and Krups returned to the car before they had to break the window to rescue the baby.
Police say that Krups said she knew the baby was asleep in the car, but just planned to quickly return something.
She was gone for 10 to 15 minutes, while temperatures hit 83 outside and a scorching 105 inside the vehicle, according to police.
The child was not injured in the incident and was released into the custody of the father.
Krups was freed on a $25,000 bond, according to court records. She could not be reached for comment and was due in court again on Friday.
