Kerry Katona purchases a new home up north… despite declaring bankruptcy TWICE

Kerry Katona revealed on Wednesday that she has purchased a new home in the north of England, despite declaring bankruptcy in 2008 and 2013. 

The former Atomic Kitten star, 40, beamed in a social media snap as she discussed overcoming hurdles in life including ‘drugs, bipolar [disorder] and divorces,’ to buy her own house. 

Declaring bankruptcy can significantly damage an individual’s credit score and subsequently impact their ability to obtain a mortgage. 

‘I’ve finally bought a house!’ Kerry Katona revealed on Instagram on Wednesday that she has purchased a new home in the north of England, after declaring bankruptcy in 2008 and 2013

Sharing the good news to Instagram, Kerry sported minimal make-up and a blue top as she penned: ‘Good morning you beautiful people!!! Well it’s official!! After losing EVERYTHING 13 years ago and having to rent I’ve finally bought me a house!!

‘I want to share this news because many times over the years I literally felt suicidal! BUT I never gave up!

‘If I can turn things around and get back on top ANYONE can. I’m not gonna lie Credit where credit due I’m really proud of myself. 

‘DONT EVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!!!!!!! Doesn’t matter if others don’t believe in you just as long as you believe in yourself!’ (sic)

She went on to thank her fiancé Ryan Mahoney for supporting her along her journey while looking back at her biggest life challenges. 

Kerry continued: ‘Thank you @ryanmahoney_7 for always having faith in me even when I didn’t. I love you #LOA #stateofmind

‘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Even 6 years ago I never thought I’d be where I am today! It’s been bloody hard. Drugs, bankruptcy, bipolar, mental health, anxiety, divorcees breakdowns, car crash TVs WOW I honestly never thought I’d get through it all! 

‘But here I am. Tell yourself every day you love yourself, tell yourself every day your worth it and never ever let other people’s opinions define you as a person! Learn from it all, move on and help others❤️❤️❤️❤️’. (sic)

The TV personality concluded the post: ‘Oh and yes.. I’m moving back up north ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️.’

Kerry was declared bankrupt in 2008 after failing to pay £82,000 of a £417,000 tax bill.

She filed for bankruptcy once more in 2013 at her local office in Wigan. It is reported her legal woes didn’t stop there and that she filed for bankruptcy again in 2018.  

To qualify for a mortgage, individuals who have declared bankruptcy, need to build their credit score to prove to lenders they can be trusted to repay debts accrued on property.

Secured credit cards and installment loans are a way of building one’s credit score for a mortgage after bankruptcy, but the process can take several years.  

Just one day earlier, Kerry was see popping into an estate agents in Cheshire with her fiancé as they prepared to make the move up north.

Kerry, who is originally from Warrington, has spent recent months viewing potential new homes after spending a ‘long time’ thinking about the decision to return to her roots. 

However, the former Atomic Kitten star has only recently moved into a sprawling two-storey and four bedroom rented home in east Sussex with her family.

Kerry got engaged to Ryan in August, but was married to Brian McFadden from 2002 to 2006, Mark Croft from 2007 to 2011 and the late George Kay from 2014 to 2017. 

She is a mother to Molly, 19, Lilly-Sue, 18, with ex-husband Brian, Heidi, 13, Maxwell, 12, with ex Mark, 49, and Dylan-Jorge, six, whose father George tragically passed away in 2019. 

Talking about being being together with her five children during lockdown, she sweetly said to MailOnline: ‘I have visions of me being 101 in a rocking chair, because I’m an only child you see.

‘And being in foster home and refuges and not having a biological dad, my dream was always to have a big family.

‘Being the grandmother in the rocking chair with my kids and grandkids and great grandkids, Christmases they all come to mine, that is something I’ve always wanted.’
