Kerry Washington stuns in maroon dress and turquoise boots as she promotes her memoir Thicker Than Water

Kerry Washington is making the rounds of talk shows and news programs to promote her memoir Thicker Than Water, which is due out on September 26.

The Scandal alum, 46, looked sensational in a long maroon dress with a high/low hem, a v-neck and long sleeves which she had pushed up above her elbows.

She paired the dramatic dress with a pair of bright blue suede, knee-high boots.

The School for Good and Evil actress matched her handbag and her lipstick to her dress. She layered several gold necklaces to give the outfit a little bling.

Kerry was making an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, 55.

Kerry has been dropping bombshells from the book during interviews promoting her memoir.

In the book, she shared that she had an abortion in her 20s when she found herself unexpectedly pregnant right after she landed the lead in Spike Lee’s 2004 film She Hate Me.

It wasn’t easy for the Django Unchained star to include that part of her story in the book and she almost left it out.

‘I struggled a lot in the beginning with whether or not to include my abortion story,’ she told People.

‘At first I wasn’t really sure how it fit into this story of my life. But I started to feel like it was really important for me to share this.’

The Little Fires Everywhere star revealed that she gave a fake name to the doctors that performed the abortion to protect her privacy.

And even though the termination was the right choice for her, she admitted that she felt shame as the procedure was performed, especially because as a teenager she was a sexual health educator.

‘I’m telling my truth about my life, excavating some of my secrets,’ she explained, ‘I don’t want my not telling it to make anybody think there is shame to be had.’

‘This story had so much to do with my understanding of myself and the world as my career unfolded,’ she told People.

The actress also realized we are at a unique point in history with reproductive rights being stripped away in many states in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

‘We’re at a moment where it’s really important to be telling the truth about our reproductive choices because some of those choices are being stripped away from us,’ she explained.

‘It’s just so important to me that abortion is not a bad word, and that my abortion is not another thing on the list of things that I’m ashamed of,’ she added.

And now, 20 years later, Kerry has three kids a teenage stepdaughter as well as daughter Isabelle, nine, and son Caleb, six, with her husband of 10 years, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha.
