Kevin De Bruyne has handed Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City a major boost as the midfielder has been named on the bench for their home Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

The 32-year-old has not featured for the champions since their opening game against Burnley back in August.

De Bruyne was forced off in their win over the Clarets with a hamstring injury and has remained on the sidelines ever since.

It was initially claimed that the Belgium star would not return to action until 2024 – but his inclusion has surprised many fans.

He was spotted in training earlier this month, while City prepared for their Club World Cup campaign in Saudi Arabia.

Now, Guardiola has deemed City’s key player fit enough to return to the matchday squad.

The Premier League champions come into the clash with the Blades off the back of a vital 3-1 win away at Everton – with Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernado Silva all netting in the victory at Goodsion Park.

De Bruyne’s return has no doubt handed the side a major boost- as they look to push on and challenge for the league title after their recent poor run of form.

It would appear that City fans are also in high spirits – taking to social media to show off their excitement with the return of the midfielder.

Taking to X – formerly know as Twitter – one fan wrote: ‘The best player in the world is back.

‘Pray for the rest of the league. We gave the pretenders countless opportunities to make a statement. Instead they bottled it.’

While another posted: ‘I’m getting new signing vibes the king has finally returned’ followed by a goat emoji.

A third seemed to be full of confidence, tweeting: ‘Sad to report that the title race has ended today.’
