Kevin Smith is ‘heartbroken’ over Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce.
The 54-year-old filmmaker told People magazine that his longtime friend and collaborator Affleck, 52, is ‘one of my favorite people on the planet,’ adding that Lopez, 55, is ‘wonderful too.’
Following JLo’s August divorce filing after two years of marriage, Smith said: ‘And if they’re not going forward, that breaks my heart and stuff, but I’ve always adored [Affleck].’
Lopez filed for divorce on August 20 after months of speculation that the marriage was on the rocks. The filing date was their two-year wedding anniversary.
It comes after a source recently told People about the former couple: ‘They want to stay friendly. There’s still a lot of love.’

Shortly after Ben and Jennifer’s 2022 Georgia wedding, Kevin revealed to ET Online that he ‘bawled throughout’ the ‘overwhelmingly emotional’ nuptials.
‘I’m a crier,’ he told the site at the time. ‘I cry all the time. I cry watching episodes of The Flash. I cry watching Degrassi for heaven’s sake. But I bawled throughout because it was goddamn beautiful. So beautiful.’
Taking to X in summer 2022 to share a photo from the wedding, he wrote, ‘For those who say ‘He always wears the same outfit … ‘ @JenSchwalbach, @JordanMonsanto, @JayMewes & me, all cleaned up.’
The jokester added, ‘This is as formal as I’ve been dressed since maybe my First Communion when I was 7.’
Earlier this year, amid rumors that Affleck and Lopez’s relationship was on the rocks, Smith shared at Comic Con, ‘Obviously, [Ben’s] been going through a thing, or at least that’s what it says in the press and whatnot.
‘I, being his least trustworthy friend who’s very loose-lipped… my wife was like, “Oh, you should reach out to him.”
‘I was like, “The last person he needs to hear from right now is the guy who chats a lot.” So when he’s in a good place, he’ll let me know.’
Smith also said he planned to speak to Affleck when he begins filming the next Jay and Silent Bob installment in the fall.

‘I’ll be reaching out to him. He may even come play, but I haven’t been anywhere near the situation,’ he said.
Kevin worked with Affleck on the movies Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
He also directed the Boston native and Jennifer in 2004’s dramedy Jersey Girl.
Despite their divorce moving forward, the exes reunited in September for lunch with their kids at The Beverly Hills Hotel.
Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony and Affleck shares Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
