Three days before the UFC 257 showdown, though, the Swede will be in action when his championship credentials are tested in a mouthwatering clash with Britain’s Leon Edwards.

Despite preparing for the biggest challenge of his young career to date, the undefeated star has his eyes set on McGregor, with there being no love lost between the pair.

The 26-year-old is a close friend and admirer of McGregor’s arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, and was left unimpressed with the Irishman’s antics in the lead up to their 2018 bout.

However, the undefeated starlet has fired a warning towards McGregor ahead of the upcoming fight week, urging the UFC to hide The Notorious at Fight Island.

‘If I see him on Fight Island, something will definitely happen,’ he told Russian MMA journalist Igor Lazorin via The Sun. ‘The UFC needs to hide him.’

Chimaev previously warned that he will ‘smash’ McGregor after the Irishman traded barbs with manager Ali Abdelaziz on Twitter this weekend.

The Irishman tweeted a cryptic message on Saturday which was soon deleted that read: ‘MeDanaAliGonnaGetcha’.

It was interpreted by some as a nod to the Irish star’s efforts to push UFC boss Dana White for a rematch with unbeaten lightweight champion Khabib.

The 26-year-old Russian born fighter tweeted in support of Abdelaziz: ‘Don’t worry big brother I’m going to smash this chicken for you.’
