Khamzat Chimaev’s chilling reaction to Aussie comedian ahead of Rob Whittaker showdown at UFC 308

  • Fighters were being interviewed ahead of Abu Dhabi bout
  • Russian took exception to the Australian’s line of questioning
  • Threatened the Aussies saying it will be a ‘bad morning for you’

Khamzat Chimaev is not the kind of bloke you want to get on the bad side of, but an Aussie comedian may have bit off more than he can chew after earning the Russian UFC champion’s wrath.

Chimaev will take on Australia’s Rob Whittaker in Abu Dhabi at UFC 308 with the Aussie hoping to leapfrog Sean Strickland into a world title fight with an upset victory.

It will be no easy assignment, with Chimaev making a formidable debut in the UFC in 2020 after transitioning to mixed martial arts and maintaining a perfect UFC record ever since .

Whittaker is a former UFC Middleweight Champion, known for his victory over Yoel Romero at UFC 213, which made him the first Australian to win a UFC championship.

He has since secured significant wins against top contenders like Jared Cannonier, Darren Till, and Kelvin Gastelum and is hoping for another title shot against Chimaev in Australia if he can beat the Russian in Abu Dhabi.

While the event will be held live on Saturday night local time, Aussies will need to up early on Sunday to catch Whittaker.

Aussie comedian and radio host Nick Cody, who co-hosts Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nick show, interview both fighters ahead of the bout and it started off in seemingly innocent fashion.

‘As always, you’ve got the entire country behind you. But Saturday night here is 5am Sunday morning in Sydney and Melbourne. That’s when the main card kicks off,’ Cody asked Whittaker.

‘What would you recommend to the people, go to bed early and set an alarm or just push through, send it, and have a big party when Whittaker gets the W?’

Whittaker didn’t get a chance to respond, though, with Chimaev taking offence to the line of questioning.

‘It will be a bad morning for you guys … F*** off, man!’ the Russian fumed.

Cody replied: ‘I didn’t ask you.’

Whittaker couldn’t stop laughing and said: ‘Tuck yourself in early. Wake up. It’s gonna be a cracker. I won’t keep you waiting.’

Still fired up, Chimaev added: ‘Abu Dhabi fans, my Muslim brothers, take out this s***. Throw him out.

‘Get back to Australia. I’m coming to your home, man.’

Whittaker is prepared to go the full five rounds or 25 minutes, to which Khimaev said: ‘I don’t think we’ll need 25.

‘I’m here to finish somebody. I’m here to fight, man.

‘Maybe (he) come here and jump around like a kangaroo, I don’t know.

‘I’m here for a fight.

‘And first to last, I’ll try to finish the guy.’
