KIIS FM star Clint Stanaway breaks down on air as he admits he’s ‘lonely’ after landing a coveted role as the Weekend Today co-host
Clint Stanaway revealed he struggles with loneliness every week when he flies to Sydney for his coveted job as a Weekend Today co-anchor.
The KIIS FM newsreader broke down live on radio earlier this month when he spoke about an article which revealed 1 in 4 adults say they ‘feel lonely’.
He confessed he could relate to the statistic because he feels lonely when he leaves his mates in Melbourne every weekend to fly to Sydney for his Channel Nine gig.
‘I jump on the plane every Friday to work on the Weekend Today Show and it is something I love doing and I wouldn’t take it back for a second,’ he said.
‘But every Friday when I get on a plane and go to a city that I didn’t grow up in and I’m not that familiar with, there is a bit of panic there.’
He continued: ‘I don’t know anyone there and I sort of think, “How am I going to fill in my time? How am I going to fill in my days?” Because I’m going to be lonely.’
He went on to say he spends much of his free time sitting in his hotel alone or taking himself out to dinner and lunch because he doesn’t have friends in Sydney.
‘It’s stressful. There have been times it’s been a bit soul destroying because social media will light up and you will see what your friends [back home] are doing.’

Clint said he finds it ’embarrassing’ to admit he doesn’t have someone to spend time with in Sydney and is struggling to make friends in the fast-paced city.
His break down prompted fellow Melbourne-based radio hosts Lauren Phillips and Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins to launch their own Big Melbourne Mate Date event.
After attracting over two thousand followers online for their cause, the duo will host their first in-person meetup next Thursday at Ballers Clubhouse Carlton from 5pm.

It will see strangers from all across the city come together to create new connections in an effort to combat loneliness in Aussie adults.
It comes after Clint was one of three new hosts confirmed for Channel Nine’s breakfast program Weekend Today earlier this year.
The network announced Jayne Azzopardi and Clint as the new hosts fronting the show, with Sophie Walsh as newsreader and Dan Anstey as weather presenter.
Jayne, Clint and Sophie replaced veteran hosts Richard Wilkins, Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher.
