The mother of six-year-old Kylie Maybury has revealed that she wanted to kill her daughter’s murderer after spending her life hunting him, only to discover he lived a few streets away.
Kylie was found dead in a gutter of Melbourne suburb Preston East, a day after she walked to the shops to buy her mother some sugar in 1984.
For 30 years, Kylie’s mother Julie Maybury got to know men across Australia, with the hope she would find who kidnapped, raped and murdered her daughter on Melbourne Cup Day.

Police knocked on Ms Maybury’s door telling her they received a tip off that Gregory Keith Davies (pictured) was the killer, with a DNA match to prove it

Police later found a DNA match of Davies’ semen in Kylie’s underpants.
Ms Maybury told A Current Affair her daughter’s killer was ‘right on my doorstep’ with the convenience store sitting in the middle of the two houses.
‘I would love to kill him myself,’ Ms Maybury said.
‘I broke down, the tears were running down my eyes.
‘[He’s] a bastard and a monster for what [he] did to my daughter.’

Davies was arrested and charged in 2016 for abducting, raping and murdering the young girl
The mother said she and Kylie used to deliver pamphlets around the neighbourhood but she always had an ‘eery feeling’ at Davies’ house, with the feeling being so uncomfortable, they stopped delivering pamphlets to his area completely.
The murder sparked one of the biggest police operations for the time, with hundreds of men interviewed.
Davies was arrested and charged in 2016 for abducting, raping and murdering the young girl.

Earlier this year the 74-year-old (pictured) had boiling water poured on his groin while in prison and is expected to appear before court on November 27
The 74-year-old admitted to the crime on what was supposed to be the first day of his pre-trial committal hearing at the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court.
In July this year, Davies’ had boiling water poured on his groin at Port Phillip Prison in Victoria.
The defence lawyer told the Supreme Court of Victoria in September Davies had ‘skin grafts to 15 per cent of his body’ and had only just been able to walk again.
Davies’ will appear before court on November 27.
