Kim Kardashian defends sister Kylie’s Forbes magazine cover and argues that her family is self-made

Kim Kardashian is hitting back against the online backlash claiming her family– and in particular, sister Kylie– isn’t self-made.

Last week, Forbes proclaimed Kylie Jenner, 20, was on track to become the youngest self-made billionaire. But critics quickly pounced saying Kylie rode the wave of success paved by the Kardashian reality show dynasty.

‘I really didn’t get it, because she is ‘self-made’ — we are all self-made,’ Kim said in a phone interview with Refinery29.

An emphatic Kim added,  ‘What, because we came from a family that has had success? To me, that doesn’t really make sense… I know so many people like that who haven’t turned out to be as successful as Kylie. If anything, I’ve seen the complete opposite.’

Both Kim and Kylie made it onto Forbes‘ 2018 list of the 60 Richest Self-Made Women, due in large part to their cosmetics businesses.

‘Me, Kylie, not one [of the siblings] has ever depended on our parents for anything besides advice,’ Kim stressed in the interview. ‘That’s how I lived my life with my dad [Robert Kardashian]. He never gave me anything. We might have the opportunity, but I’ve seen it go the complete opposite way. Nobody works harder than my sisters and my mom.’

Kylie’s mother, Kris Jenner,  attributed the success of Kylie Cosmetics with having a dream, a plan and hard work.

While speaking with TMZ, the so-called ‘momager’ revealed that her youngest daughter first talked about building a beauty empire at the age of 17.

‘She had a plan when she was 17… She had meetings, she knew exactly who and what she wanted,’ Kris continued. ‘And she executed it. And I think it was only after 10 minutes that her product was sold out.’

In her Forbes interview, Kylie said that she hopes to pass her billion-dollar Lip Kit business on to her daughter Stormi one day, which is something Kim and husband Kanye West also hope to do.

‘I’ve built something, and you hope one of your kids will want to be in the family business and work with you,” Kim said. ‘Kanye probably feels the same way. He wants one of our kids to work at Yeezy and take over [it]. Luckily, we have a lot of kids.’

Forbes listed Kim’s net worth to be $350 million.

Kylie Cosmetics was valued at a whopping $900 million.
