Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand Skims is firing back in court after it was sued by a woman claiming she received defective body tape that injured her.

A representative for the 41-year-old reality icon’s brand now claims that the woman in question purchased her body tape from Amazon, and it appears to either be a completely different brand of tape or a fake product labeled as Skims, according to TMZ.

Noelle Mahasin Smith claimed in her lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, that Skims tape that she purchased had ripped her skin off when she tried to remove it.

In her lawsuit, Smith blames the supposed Skims body tape for physical and mental pain she suffered after using it.

But a representative for Kardashian’s popular shapewear brand defended the company and said the woman didn’t buy a legitimate Skims product.

‘We take feedback from our customers very seriously. Upon further review of this specific complaint, we have discovered that the customer purchased what appears to be fake tape from Amazon, who is not an authorized or official retailer of SKIMS products,’ they said.

A screenshot obtained by TMZ appears to show an an Amazon receipt from 2019.

The product does not list the name ‘Skims’ anywhere on the receipt, and a listing that appears to be for the same item also does not currently list it as a Skims product.

The low price would also suggest that the item is not genuine, as Skims body tape retails for $36, while the item bought by Smith only cost $9.99 on Amazon.

Another photo appears to show the tape that the plaintiff used, but it differs significantly from a comparison photo of official Skims body tape.

Although the outer side of both tapes appear to be a similar shade of brown, the inside paper layer of the plaintiff’s tape — which would be peeled off to expose the adhesive surface — was decorated with a simple blue-and-white grid pattern.

However, a comparison photo of official Skims tape shows that its paper lining is decorated with the Skims logo on a white background.

It also includes a plastic spool featuring the logo, while Smith’s tape doesn’t appear to have one, though it could have been unspooled and wound back up.

Skims’ website does currently appear to sell its brand of body tape.

The Skims rep added that the popularity of the item has led to a variety of knockoff body tapes.

‘Unfortunately counterfeit items have become commonplace for the brand and we strongly advise our customers to only purchase from SKIMS or any of our official retail partners which can be found on our website to ensure that they receive authentic products that meet our quality standards.’
