Kimberly Guilfoyle breaks down talking about losing her parents to cancer on The View

Kimberly Guilfoyle nearly broke down in tears while speaking on The View as she opened up about losing her parents to cancer while paying tribute to the late Senator John McCain.

Donald Trump Jr’s girlfriend became overcome with emotion as she defended her beau’s family while sharing her sympathies to show host Megan McCain, calling her late father ‘my friend’ during the couple’s chaotic appearance on the show Thursday morning.

‘No finer human being. I considered him my friend. I miss him. I understand your loss. Yesterday was the anniversary of my mother passing. I lost my father Thanksgiving night,’ the 50-year-old said overcome with emotion.

‘[Don Jr] woke me up, and said, “Princess, I know this is a hard day for you,”‘ she added.

‘It breaks my heart to hear anyone say anything bad about your father. I understand that, and I know how difficult it is,’ she said, adding in a shaky voice that she lost both of her parents to cancer.

‘And I know how difficult it is for him when everybody is attacking his family, they’re outside of our apartment, they want to put him in jail…Having lost both of my parents to cancer, this is tough. I would like there to be more civility in politics,’ she added, placing an arm around Trump.

McCain then addressed Guilfoyle and said: ‘If you believe that, and Kimberly we did work together and I do know you, bring civility back. You can do it. You’re in the White House.’

In a surprise turn, Trump apologized for his father’s antagonistic relationship with Sen. McCain saying: ‘I’m sorry about that. They did have differences, I agree with that.’

The couple’s debut on the show was a chaotic one where the hosts and guests talked over each other and at some points the crowd boo-ed Trump and Guilfoyle.

Trump and Guilfoyle, who started dating in April 2018, dodged answering whether they have a wedding in the works, saying they’re busy focusing on the 2020 election.

Host Abby Huntsman asked the couple: ‘When are you two tying the knot?’

Guilfoyle bashfully shook her head and put an arm around her beau as he stuttered on his words.

‘Oh my God. We need to get the president re-elected! We’re partners together, we live together. Modern family,’ Guilfoyle said.

‘We got one goal for 2020, okay?’ Trump said.

‘But Kimberly’s been amazing. She understands this world and unfortunately my world has drastically changed from what I was used to before politics, and everything to be able to do this,’ he said.

‘My campaign thing is having to travel with Kimberly. It’s amazing to be able to do that. She has a good grasp in being able to speak to people. When you need a sledgehammer I’m pretty good, and when you need subtlety and nuance, she’s good,’ he added.

The couple appeared on the show to promote Trump’s new book Triggered: How The Left Thrives On Hate And Wants To Silence Us, but quickly found themselves butting heads with the hosts and vehemently defending President Donald Trump as they were peppered with questions about the impeachment inquiry, Hunter Biden, and Trump’s treatment of veteran families.

McCain remained silent for the first part of the segment, but in the second portion of the interview she finally called out Trump for his family’s divisive language that has ‘hurt a lot of people’, particularly Gold Star veterans.

In 2016 Donald Trump, then a Republican presidential candidate, bashed Muslim-American Khan parents Khizr and Ghazala Khan whose son Capt. Humayun Khan died serving in Iraq in 2014.

‘You and your family have hurt a lot of people and put a lot of people through a lot of pain, including the Khan family who was a Gold Star family, who I think should be respected because of the loss of your son. Does all this make you feel good?’ a visibly emotional McCain asked.

Gold Star families are a group of individuals who lost families in the Iraq War and are entitled to display a Gold Star.

‘I don’t think any of that makes me feel good, but I think we got into this because we wanted to do what’s right for America,’ Trump replied.

‘I think people can go to moment when my dad had stopped someone from saying Obama was a Muslim… and the pain, inflicting pain on so many people wouldn’t have been worth it to me or people in White House. So I just want to know, is it worth it?’ McCain pressed.

That’s when Kimberly Guilfoyle cut in to defend Trump and point out that incivility in politics goes both ways.
