Jurgen Klopp has already added Naby Keita and Fabinho to his ranks this summer, but he is far from done as he attempts to land Ousmane Dembele.
A deal could be done if Barcelona and Dembele are willing to agree to a loan, with Liverpool unable to afford a move to buy the Frenchman if they keep Mohamed Salah.
They are also prioritising the signing of a goalkeeper but all their current targets will command significant fees.
Ousmane Dembele is subject to huge interest from Jurgen Klopp who wants to sign him
Mundo Deportivo report that Klopp has made enquiries for Dembele and Jasper Cillessen
Klopp is determined to add the former Borussia Dortmund man to his attacking options, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo.
But behind the scenes, Liverpool are less keen. They are unwilling to spend the £88m it would take to bring him to Anfield. They fear the only way a deal could be funded would be through selling Salah.
Meanwhile, Dembele would prefer a permanent move. He wants assurances and guarantees over his future.
Klopp will speak to the 21-year-old’s mother in a bid to get her on side about a move to England, which he believes will be mutually beneficial.
Dembele has enjoyed a slower start to life at the Nou Camp than he would have envisaged, having missed 27 games through injury last season.
Klopp is determined to sign Dembele and plans to speak to his mother to help convince him
The Frenchman has struggled with injuries this year and missed 27 matches for Barcelona
He joined Barcelona from Dortmund last summer on a deal worth around £98m but potentially rising to £135m.
With the addition of Philippe Coutinho in the January window and a deal to bring Antoine Griezmann in from Atletico Madrid looking likely, Dembele’s place in the first-team looks under serious-threat.
Klopp likes the player because of his pace, ability to keep wide and take players on one-on-one. He is looking for alternative options to his current front-three, who are lacking in quality back-up.
But Liverpool are also looking to strengthen the goalkeeper position after a string of blunders from Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

Karius made two howlers in the Champions League final that cost them a real shot at taking the title.
Liverpool have been linked with Barcelone number two, Jasper Cillessen, who featured in their Copa del Rey run but only twice in the league and Champions League.
They are also currently looking at Roma’s Alisson, Atletico’s Jan Oblak and Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, but these will cost above £60m as Liverpool look to continue their summer spending spree.
