Shoppers have been divided over a $19 ottoman from Kmart that rivals a similar-looking piece costing more than five times the retail price.
A mum, from Perth, prompted a discussion on social media after she shared pictures of two plush pink ottomans – but each come with different price tags.
The budget version costs just $19 while the ottoman from Fantastic Furniture is $99.

She wanted to style the corner of a room with a grey statement chair but was torn between the two ottomans so she asked fellow shoppers to help her choose one.
The ribbed ottoman from Kmart comes with a hidden storage while the other version features a tufted design with a smooth velvet finish.
Many suggested the Kmart piece was a better suited match for her room because the other ottoman would clash with the stitching design on the chair.
‘Kmart is better, the other one is too matchy, matchy and it also looks cheaper. I feel that’s a mistake a lot of people make, trying to find things that match perfectly. It doesn’t have to, let the chair have its shine,’ one woman wrote.
Another suggested: ‘It has nothing to do with price. It’s because there is already tufting/faux button work on the chair, and the ottoman looks too similar. But the Kmart one has a different contrast and works very well.’
One woman added: ‘I agree there are too many dimples going on the other one – Kmart gives it another texture.’
While another said: ‘The $99 one looks too much like the chair and makes the space look more crowded. Kmart is slim, compliments the chair and make the space look more open.’
The budget ottoman has received near-perfect reviews online, with many shoppers saying they just love versatile features of the piece, which works as a side table, extra seating, footrest and storage
However, others disagreed, with one woman saying she preferred the expensive ottoman because the budget buy looked out of place.
‘Kmart looks cheaper, and has too many different patterns that don’t match anything going on… but the $99 ottoman and the back of the chair are the same and it just looks really comfy and pricey to be honest,’ she said.
While another wrote: ‘The $99 suits your chair better. Sometimes it’s better to spent the dollars than to cheapen the look.’
Meanwhile, others said they simply couldn’t look past the affordable price tag.
‘If I had to choose one it would be the Kmart one. I feel the same tufted pattern on the $99 clashes with the chair. Plus $20 is more in my price range,’ one said.
While another woman added: ‘Personally I couldn’t justify the $80 difference when it’s basically the same colour and similar look – so I’d go the Kmart one.’

‘This ottoman looks great for a pop of colour in my lounge. It’s a great footrest, seat, dinner table (husband) and storage. Velvet top, hard around the outside. Sturdy for the price. Very happy,’ one woman wrote.
Another added: ‘Beautiful ottoman. Very classy. Great storage space. A bargain.’
