A young shopper has been stunned to discover Kmart workers performing group stretches at the start of their shift.
Sydney man Zane Ammar had been walking around the store when he noticed their morning routine at 8am.
‘You’re never going to believe what I’m seeing,’ he said.
‘There’s all these Kmart workers stretching before a shift.’
He filmed himself approaching the staff members as they stood in a circle, stretching their necks.
‘Excuse me, sorry to interrupt the workout,’ he said before asking where the sporting goods were.
‘Not at all,’ a staff member replied. ‘Would you like to join today?’.
Mr Ammar then began to partake in the group session.
Sydney man Zane Ammar invited himself to a group warmup at a popular retailer
‘So, what, you just warm up for the shift pretty much?’ he asked.
‘Yep, pretty much,’ the worker replied.
As the man continued to warm up the staff member offered an encouraging compliment.
‘Aren’t you a lovely young man? Very handsome and everything. Great personality,’ she said.
She invited Mr Ammar to join them every day at 8am for the group sessions and they wished each other a good day.
Many social media users found the interaction heartwarming and said stretching was helpful to retail workers’ routines.
‘I laugh but retail is an insanely physically demanding job. Stretching mid shift is the best feeling in the world,’ one wrote.
‘I work in retail and this is very important for all the back, neck, arm muscle strains that you are in for that day,’ another agreed.
Mr Ammar even received a string of compliments for his efforts in the group stretch session
Many retail workers said their employers required them to complete stretches daily, so as to reduce the risk of injuries and time off work.
‘Where I work its mandatory to do stretches before we start our shifts,’ one said.
‘I work for another big Aussie retailer and we do it too, so many people complain but I need those stretches,’ another joked.
‘As health and safety officer so good seeing this!’ a higher-up wrote.
One found the chosen location interesting for the pre-shift warm up.
‘(We’ve got to) do this every 7am shift but normally we do it up the back not on the shop floor,’ one retail worker said.
‘I work in construction we do this and I often hope nobody sees us,’ a tradie joked.
Australian company Primal Physiotherapy advises workers to stretch and warm up before their shift to reduce injuries and minimise usage-related pains.
‘When we begin work it’s important to warm up our body and muscles to get the blood flowing so we can move smoothly and lessen the risk of injury,’ their website states.
Daily Mail Australia contacted Kmart for comment.
