‘Grab yourself one of these. No matter how much I vacuum there’s always at least this much to be swept out! That’s only a small patch,’ the woman wrote.

She added that if you want to ‘level up’ the cleanliness of your carpet you should use a lint roller too.

The woman shared her discovery to popular Facebook group titled ‘cleaning and organising inspiration Australia’.

What are the best way to clean a rug or carpet?

* Vacuum the underside instead of the top of a large rug to clean it, the dust just falls out of the rug and can then be swept up

* Sprinkle baking soda on your carpet before vacuuming to clean and deodorise

* Wet your rug and apply a layer of shaving cream to it, then take it outside and use a high pressure hose to blast the shaving cream off

* Spray Nifti all-purpose cleaning spray on the stain, lay a clean towel on top and then iron it for a few seconds and the stain will lift off

Many online seemed eager to buy the latest broom for themselves.

‘Guess I’m going to Kmart,’ one woman commented, another wrote: ‘I don’t even have carpet but I want one now.’

‘I love the silicone broom. I use it on my carpets also, and i find it good for getting cobwebs as well,’ one said.

Opinions were split on Facebook regarding whether the broom and lint roller are a good idea, or if they are too hard on the carpet, and are actually pulling up carpet fibre instead of just dirt and hair

However other group members thought the brush was too harsh, and all the ‘dirt’ found was actually carpet fibre.

‘Pretty sure that’s carpet fibre,’ one woman commented.

‘Just a hot tip from someone who’s seen so many customers who’ve ruined their carpet – if the “hair” that the rubber broom or lint shaver keeps ominously pulling out of your carpet doesn’t look familiar. It’s actually the carpet,’ a man advised.

‘The rubber broom creates friction and pulls threads and the shaver essentially shaves off the top of the pile.’

But the woman assured everyone what she pulled up was dog hair and said: ‘Pretty sure it’s dog hair and dirt, carpets are clearly not white.’

Images shared show her carpets are grey and the debris was white.

Online reviews for the Kmart product are very positive, with only two of 58 reviews leaving under four stars.

‘Great for collecting cat hair – it sticks to the rubber bristles really well,’ one woman said.

‘Great product. Sweeps everything up from the floor especially handy for hair,’ another wrote.
