There was an awkward moment on Sunrise on Thursday, thanks to co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch referencing ‘blue balls’ while live on TV.

The 65-year-old and his co-host Natalie Barr, 53, were interviewing The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart about the Powerball when Kochie forgot the name of the lottery and why it’s called that.

They were talking about how people can buy a Powerhit ticket to increase their chances of winning when Kochie made the gaffe.

‘That’s the expensive one, but it increases your chances doesn’t it? Because, what’s the ball, the blue ball at the end…’ Kochie trailed off.

Natalie dryly quipped before laughing: ‘The Powerball? That’s why it’s called Powerball’.

Kochie looked a little embarrassed and said he wanted to ‘move on’ before admitting he says some ‘dumb’ things on air.

‘You get to ask some dumb questions sometimes on live TV and that was one of them,’ he said.

It comes after Kochie’s former co-host Samantha Armytage, 45, admitted that she no longer watches the show anymore after her departure almost a year ago.

Speaking on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O, Samantha said: ‘No. We never put the TV on in the mornings ever.’

Sam, who joined Sunrise in 2013, tearfully announced her resignation last March.

She explained she was leaving of her own choosing, and was looking forward to life away from the spotlight after a ‘bittersweet’ year that included the death of her mother, Libby, and her marriage to businessman Richard Lavender.

Since leaving the show after eight years as co-anchor, Sam is now fronting her own podcast called Something to Talk About for Stellar magazine.
