Krista Abbott reunited with her missing ragdoll cat Ally

A woman was stunned after she received a phone call to say her missing cat was found – eight years after she disappeared.

Krista Abbott was just a teenager when Ally the ragdoll X cat – then a kitten – went missing from her Queensland home in 2009.

She frantically searched the Cotton Tree area of the Sunshine Coast for a month – but eventually she gave up all hope of seeing her blue-eyed feline again.

The young woman went on with her life – she got married, started a family, moved interstate and even got a new pet cat.

Fast forward eight years, the mother-of-two, now aged 27, has been reunited with Ally after an animal shelter traced her back to the owner through her microchip.

‘I was beside myself, I couldn’t believe it,’ she told 9News.

‘The same little cat that I had all those years ago, just a little bit older… Yeah it was really exciting.’

The then-teenager was distraught when her cat never returned home, believing she might have died.

‘One night she just didn’t come home. We were pretty devastated at the time and do all the usual things you would do when your cat goes missing,’ she recalled.

But earlier last week, Krista – who now lives in Wollongong was contacted by a staff member from a lost and found organisation about her missing cat.

‘I was like “surely not”. I thought she was dead,’ Krista told The Courier Mail.

‘They sent me a photo and as soon as I saw it I was like “oh my goodness, that’s her”.’

The cat was found in Nambour – just 20 kilometres from where she disappeared in Cotton Tree in Maroochydore.

Despite Krista not knowing where her cat has been all these years, she said she’s just happy to have her back.
