Director, actress, producer and writer of the new Charlie’s Angels reboot Elizabeth Banks looked incredible as she showcased her toned waist in a black cut-out Versace dress with a gold logo on the belt and padded shoulders.

The premiere comes after actress and director Elizabeth stood behind her film on Monday amid a poor $8.6 million showing at the box office in its opening US frame.

‘Well, if you’re going to have a flop, make sure your name is on it at least 4x. I’m proud of #CharliesAngels and happy it’s in the world,’ Banks, 45, said in a tweet.

Elizabeth directed, acted in, produced and wrote the current instalment in the series, that features Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska in the titular roles.

Banks had previously fielded questions if it was too soon to reboot the franchise after the 2011 ABC TV flop that starred Minka Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh and Rachael Taylor; and the film series starring Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz that included 2000’s Charlie’s Angels and the 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

‘You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!’ she told the Wall Street Journal last week. ‘I think women are allowed to have one or two action franchises every 17 years – I feel totally fine with that.’

The film, which is believed to have a production budget around $50 million, according to Entertainment Weekly, fell short of its projected $12-15 million domestic debut.

Plot: In Elizabeth's vision, the Angels have been ratched up into an international organisation with multiple teams - guided by multiple Bosleys - all working for the mysterious Charles Townsend and his security and investigative agency (pictured together with Sam Claflin)

Charlie’s Angels came in third behind Ford v Ferrari with $31 million and Midway with $8.8 million at the domestic box office. It did pull in another $19.3 million in international box office, totalling around $28 million.

Banks spoke about how gender dynamics related to the film’s potential performance in an interview with the Herald Sun last month.

‘Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too,’ she said. ‘This movie has to make money. If this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.’

In regards to female superhero films, Banks added, ‘They’ll go and see a comic book movie with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel because that’s a male genre.

‘So even though those are movies about women, they put them in the context of feeding the larger comic book world, so it’s all about, yes, you’re watching a Wonder Woman movie but we’re setting up three other characters or we’re setting up Justice League.’

Earlier this month, director Elizabeth said she worked hard to honour the legacy of Charlie’s Angels in the film’s new reboot.

‘I think it was revolutionary back then to even say women could solve crimes. The TV show called out sexism in the opening credits,’ Banks told Psychologies magazine.

‘These women went to the police academy, but they didn’t get good enough jobs – and we took that to heart.

‘The idea that women can fulfill their wildest dreams, put all their skills to use and work together, supporting each other, is something people can expect.

‘Also, it’s just a lot of fun. Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman. This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency, while introducing a new era of modern, global Angels. I couldn’t wait to bring this chapter to fans around the world.’

Elizabeth directed the action adventure, wrote the screenplay with Jay Basu and co-stars as one of the Bosley.

In her vision, the Angels have been ratched up into an international organisation with multiple teams – guided by multiple Bosleys – all working for the mysterious Charles Townsend and his security and investigative agency.

Kristen Stewart plays Sabina Wilson, Naomi Scott stars as Elena Houghlin and Ella Balinska is Jane Kano in the new film.

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu recreated the iconic trio for two films in the early 2000’s, but Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson are known for creating the roles in the original television series.

The film will be released in U.K cinemas on Friday November 29.
