Krystal Lee Begg: Disturbing admission from junkie who attacked Sara-Jane Christensen with a hammer and left her with horrific injuries

An ice addict who attacked a sleeping a mother-of-two with a claw hammer and left her with permanent brain damage and paralysis admitted to police she was ‘spewin’ that the victim survived, a court has heard

Krystal Lee Begg, 30, faced Wyong Local Court via video link this week, where she pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm by wounding with intent to murder Sara-Jane Christensen on the NSW Central Coast on July 3 last year.

Emergency services arrived at the public commission complex in Ourimbah to confronting scenes, where Ms Christensen was found lying on the lounge room floor with an open head wound and ‘her brain was on show’, an agreed set of facts stated.

The court heard that Begg initially denied any involvement of the attack but finally fessed up after a month in custody in relation to a separate home invasion.

Begg told police that she was ‘devastated’ that Ms Christensen had survived the attack, which was motivated by the victim sleeping with Begg’s boyfriend a year before, which caused the couple to split.

However, Begg told officers while there was some ‘jealousy s**t’ between her and Ms Christensen, they had otherwise remained friends.

However, on three occasions Begg, who smoked ice every few days, expressed regret to police she hadn’t killed Ms Christensen, The Central Coast Advocate reported.

‘Well I got to have a bit of fun, I got to cave her skull in didn’t I, spewing it didn’t happen properly, devo’d, considering what I did it for,’ she told officers.

Begg on another occasion said she was  ‘spewin the b***h isn’t f**ken dead’.

On the night of the attack Begg, who lived in the same Ourimbah housing complex, broke into Ms Christensen’s unit and assaulted her while she was asleep on a couch.

After emergency services arrived Ms Christensen was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition with multiple skull fractures.

She spent the next three months in hospital where she had a titanium plate inserted to take the place of her shattered skull.

Ms Christensen still requires 24-hour daily care and assistance, including a hoist and two helpers to lift her in and out of bed.

She has not been able to walk since the attack and spends time out of bed in a wheelchair.

A Gofundme page set up by Ms Christensen’s aunt at the time said ‘the attack had left her paralysed down the left hand side of her body’.

‘She is a strong woman and survived this cowardly assault, but there is a long road to recovery,’ the page read.

Begg previously pleaded guilty to destroying property, intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the separate Wyong home invasion.

She will reappear in Gosford District Court on September 26 to fix a sentence for both matters.
