A Kurdish fighter battling the Islamic State in eastern Syria flipped militants the bird after nearly being struck by a rocket.

The defiant solider from the Kurdish People’s Protection Unit (YPG) filmed himself holding up two middle fingers to the terrorist group, while camped out in the desert.

Kendal Salem, who goes by the name ‘Firat Batman’, is a Syrian Kurd who grew up in Sweden, he explained that he returned to his Syria after IS killed his uncle in 2015. 

‘They closed in on the towns where my family lived, so I had to go back defend my family and land and people’ he said.

Firat, 34, regularly shares pictures and videos documenting his life fighting against one of the most dangerous groups in the world and posts them to his Instagram page, @ghanima031.

In the shocking clip, filmed on May 29, Firat can be heard shouting  ‘Oh s**t!’ before a loud whoosh and then an explosion takes places in the distance. 

He screams in relief and then gives a one-finger salute from both hands and shouts, ‘F*** you!’

The video was filmed near Baghouz, one of the last strongholds of IS, on May 29, weeks after US-backed forces declared victory over the militants.  

He uploaded it to Instagram with the caption ‘the voice you get when one drip makes it out.. The real ones know what i’m talking about #f**kisis #wellthtwasclose #f**kem #whatwedo’

The man’s reaction garnered praise on social media, with one commenter saying on Instagram: ‘F**k Yeah. Much respect. Love the way you threw the double bird.’

In a separate post on his Instagram page, the 34-year-old, explains to his 16,000 followers about how he ended up fighting IS.

‘I left it all told my family and friends I’m going to Spain’ he explains.

‘Turned my phone off packed one small backpack and f**k all, I left.. 

‘So here we are almost four years later a body filled with scars and I would lie if I said that I didn’t get any mental issues, I did but I don’t regret my decision to be part of the fight best decision I ever made!’
