Kwasi Kwarteng warned to avoid job with Australian iron ore miner Fortescue
Concerns: Former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng (pictured) has been warned against advising joining Australian mining firm Fortescue
Kwasi Kwarteng has been warned against advising Australian mining firm Fortescue amid fears that it would gain an ‘unfair advantage’.
The former chancellor, who lasted just 28 days in the job, asked permission from the advisory committee on business appointments.
The Tory MP, in a leaked letter from committee chairman Lord Pickles, was warned it could pose ‘real and perceived risks’.
‘You could use influence and network gained in office to provide an unfair advantage.
‘Given the company’s work will overlap directly with your access to information and responsibilities for green energy and the hydrogen energy market, the committee has recommended you are prevented from working in any aspect of the UK energy sector,’ Pickles added.
