Fears for ex-Kyle and Jackie O Show newsreader Geoff Field as he abruptly ‘takes a break from social media’ and tells friends ‘please don’t ask why’
Former Kyle and Jackie O Show newsreader Geoff Field has sparked concern for his welfare after announcing a sudden hiatus from social media.
The former 2Day FM employee, 61, notified friends and family on Facebook on Wednesday he would be taking a break ‘due to private matters’.
But his post had a worrying tone because he told his loved ones ‘don’t ask why’.

His Facebook post read: ‘Due to private matters, I will be off social media for a while – please don’t ask why. Talk soon and take care.’
A spokesperson for KIIS FM, which never employed Field because he’d left The Kyle and Jackie O Show before it moved from 2Day FM, said they ‘hope that Geoff’s okay’.
It comes several years after Field repaired his relationship with former co-host Kyle Sandilands.

The newsreader confessed he would ‘never’ work with Sandilands or Jackie ‘O’ Henderson again after walking off their radio show in 2010.
But his six-year feud with his former colleagues ended in 2016 when Field kissed Sandilands while paying a surprise visit to The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
Field later told The Sydney Morning Herald: ‘All was forgotten. We hugged each other. Kyle and I had a quick kiss. For me, it was closure.’

Field previously worked on the Sydney breakfast show during its run on 2Day FM between 2003 and 2010.
His relationship with Sandilands soured before his departure from the program.
‘There was a disagreement. I felt things were getting nasty towards the end,’ he said.
Sandilands’ on-air ribbing was standard, but tensions escalated when he described Field as ‘like a stepchild you can’t get rid of’ and ‘closer to dumb than most people think.’

After leaving Kyle and Jackie O, Field moved to the drive-time Hamish and Andy Show, which he said he ‘loved’.
He wrote in a 2015 blog post: ‘I had five mainly good years on the [Kyle and Jackie O] breakfast show, but in March 2010 things had changed. It wasn’t fun anymore.’
He added bluntly: ‘I decided never to work with either host again.’

After 18 years reading the news for 2Day FM, Field was sacked in 2015 and replaced by Dancing with the Stars winner Emma Freedman.
‘After I was let go from 2Day FM, I was initially angry,’ he said at the time.
‘In retrospect leaving there was a great thing, because I had almost 19 years with the company, and it’s time for me to look at doing something different.
‘Being away from the day to day things that go with our industry – like ratings, line-ups, scandals etc – puts things into perspective, where you realise what is really important in life.’
