Kyle Edmund was preparing to fly back to the UK on Friday reporting no major adverse reaction to his Australian Open defeat – and he still plans to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup next week.
The 23 year-old Yorkshireman is expected to have a weekend at home and then fly out on Monday to Marbella to join the British squad that will take on Spain in this year’s first round.
His condition will be assessed by the GB support team there and it is not yet certain whether he will be able to play in the match, although it is his stated intention to do so if possible.

While he was reluctant to talk about it, Edmund did something to his hip that hindered him towards the end of his straight sets defeat by Marin Cilic on Thursday.
The match against Spain does not begin until a week today, and will be played on clay. With Andy Murray injured Edmund is by far GB’s best player on the surface.
‘Hopefully it’s not too serious and we can assess him next week,’ said GB Captain Leon Smith.
Aidan McHugh, from Glasgow, was playing the Australian Open junior semi-final today and was trailing Taipei’s Chun Hsin Tseng 3-6 4-2 when the match was interrupted by rain.
