Kyle Sandilands breaks down as he recalls childhood and reveals the heartbreaking reason why he flaunts his wealth and fancy cars

Kyle Sandilands laid bare the details of his troubled childhood during a candid conversation on KIIS FM on Tuesday.

The emotional reveal happened during a therapy segment on his popular show with co-host Jackie O Henderson, 49, and therapist Dr. Justine Corry.

The radio star, 53, described his early years as riddled with trauma.

‘A bit of a childhood trauma, lots of violence and police and divorces… a lot of abandonment,’ he recounted.

‘It wasn’t just from my parents that I felt that from at the time, went around to all the family members, as a child, saying, “I’ve been kicked out” and they’re like, “Yeah, you can’t stay here.” and then when I realised I had no one, I just disappeared into a life as a homeless teenager,’ he shared.

‘I just lived on the street for a good part of the year. Ate out of the bins and shit like that,’ he revealed.

‘But I never really think about it now. It’s almost like it’s a movie that I watched.’

The radio titan went on to admitt he has abandonment issues.

‘I don’t know what it is or how it is, but I know, I’ve probably got that,’ he said.

Jackie added her perspective to the conversation, noting how Sandilands’ early experiences have shaped his adult life.

‘That’s why Kyle would want to talk about the cars he has and the money he makes, that all stems from not feeling good enough therefore if I say this I am good enough, see,’ she chimed in.

‘I’ve got an overwhelming emotional feeling right now,’ Kyle admitted.

In 2018, Kyle talked to Daily Mail Australia about his experience as a homeless 15-year-old, when he lived in constant fear of being bashed or raped in his sleep.

‘It’s always there. That’s what drives me. The fear of being in that box again,’ he admitted.

It comes after Kyle and Jackie O signed a record-breaking $200million, 10-year deal live on-air – keeping them on the airwaves until 2034.

In a statement to celebrate the historic contract renewal, Kyle said: ‘Fans of the show will be stoked to hear that this 10-year deal is the longest radio deal in Australian history.

‘Love us or loathe us, Jackie and I will be continuing with our politically incorrect nonsense for a long, long time.

‘We want to thank the listeners. Staff. All the clients. Even senior management, I’ll give a nod to. They actually did something brilliant.’

Kyle married Tegan Kynaston in 2023. The couple share one-year-old son Otto.

'And that's why I would want to talk about the cars he has and the money he makes, that all stems from not feeling good enough therefore if I say this I am good enough, see,' Jackie chimed in
