Kyle Sandilands’ health mystery deepens amid frequent absences

Radio presenter Kyle Sandilands will disclose his secret health battle in an emotional 60 Minutes special on Sunday night.

And it’s possible his diagnosis relates to his frequent absences from his KIIS FM breakfast show dating back two years.

In August 2018, the 48-year-old was forced to deny reports he’d ‘gone missing’ after failing to show up for work for several days in a row.

‘Stop looking, I’m not missing,’ Kyle said on air. ‘Apparently I was missing for days. We all know I was just sick.’

He did not specify what his health problem was.

His regular fill-in host, Beau Ryan, had said earlier that week that he didn’t know anything about Kyle’s illness.

‘He texted me, he sounded cool last night,’ Beau told listeners. ‘I don’t know what is going on with Kyle.’

Interestingly, a KIIS FM producer was heard saying on air at the time: ‘I am hoping he will be back.’

A year later, Kyle’s ex-girlfriend Imogen Anthony hinted that ‘family and health issues’ had been the reason behind their break-up.

In November, Kyle confessed that doctors had visited him at his Los Angeles home because of his uncontrollable diarrhoea.

Kyle’s absences have been less frequent in recent months, which suggests he has his problems under control.

However, he did take three days off last week. (On Friday, a spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia he was feeling ‘unwell’.)

On Wednesday, a trailer for this weekend’s 60 Minutes showed Kyle addressing his previously-undisclosed condition.

He looked at his colleague Jackie ‘O’ Henderson with tears in his eyes and told her he had been keeping the diagnosis a secret for some time.

‘I love you and it’s been wonderful,’ he said, struggling to control his emotions.

‘[But] there’s a condition that I’ve been diagnosed with that I haven’t spoken to anyone about.’

The preview for Sunday night’s episode then cut to Jackie wiping away tears from her eyes.

After decades of mistreating his body with junk food and drugs, Kyle revealed last year he had started taking more care of his body on doctors’ orders.

In October 2019, he told The Daily Telegraph he was eating healthier, and had stopped drinking excessive amounts of alcohol and taking drugs.

‘Now, if I did one line [of cocaine], I’d be dead in five seconds,’ he said at the time.

He added: ‘I was like a teenage boy my entire life, and that caught up with me… so that had to get sorted out.’

He had taken cocaine and marijuana ‘on and off’ over the years, before deciding to completely cut them out of his life, as well as alcohol and sugary treats.

‘I’ve still got high blood pressure and I’m still on medication like a mess,’ he added.
