Kyle Sandilands Karl Stefanovic undeserving of LGBTI award

Karl Stefanovic sparked controversy last year after he was nominated for a LGBTIQ award after apologising for joking about ‘trannies’ on live television.

And fellow award nominee Kyle Sandilands has now taken a swipe at the Today host, telling his radio listeners that Karl is undeserving of the prize.

‘You can’t be having a go and then apologise and start licking tranny’s ar*es on TV and then you get the award,’ the radio shock-jock told his KIIS FM listeners on Tuesday morning.

‘You can’t have a go and then apologise’: Kyle Sandilands told his KIIS FM listeners that Karl Stefanovic doesn’t deserve to win a LGBTI award after his offensive on-air ‘tranny’ jokes this Tuesday

Kyle, who had a sexual encounter with a transgender person back in 2000, added: ‘Like, I actually did sleep with a tranny.’

His radio co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson agreed, adding: ‘ And who else has done that, you know, no one in that category.’

Kyle responded: ‘I’m going to do a Kanye if I don’t win this. I’m going to get on stage and say, ‘I’ll let you  have your moment Karl Stefanovic, but I just gotta say. I’m the one who should be winning this award”.

The next day, Karl issued an apology, expressing deep regret after offending the LGBTIQ community with his use of the word ‘tranny’.

‘Well as we all know I can be a complete tool. Well yesterday I was worse I was an ignorant tool – and when I say ignorant I truly mean it,’ he said.

‘I often laugh at things I shouldn’t and most certainly say them. But I get it wrong, and yesterday I get it very wrong. I used a word which I will say for the last time ever – and I’m only saying it because you who didn’t see the segment yesterday can learn from my mistake if you choose to.

‘By using the word ‘tranny’ I annoyed an awful lot of beautiful sensitive people. I honestly didn’t know the negative and deeply hurtful impact that word has not only on members of the LGBTQI community but on their family and friends.

‘Therein lies the problem I reckon, I never bothered to ask.’
