Kyle Walker was England’s worst performer against Slovakia on Sunday, according to the player ratings published by L’Equipe.

The French sports paper is famous for often giving players low marks but Walker’s rating of 3/10 is pretty low even by their standards.

However, this was not the first time that Walker had received a 3/10 at Euro 2024. The Manchester City right back was given the same grade after England drew 0-0 with Denmark during the group stage.

Fellow full back Kieran Trippier and central defender John Stones both got ratings of 4/10 following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Slovakia in the round of 16.

Jordan Pickford, Marc Guehi, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka each got 5/10, while England’s best performers were said to be Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Kobbie Mainoo.

Real Madrid star Bellingham produced the moment of the match when he nailed a stunning overhead kick to equalise for England in the 95th minute.

Bayern Munich forward Kane then netted the winning goal with a header 51 seconds into extra time.

Bellingham, Kane and Manchester United midfielder Mainoo each got a 6/10 rating, which is also what was given to England manager Gareth Southgate – who has been widely criticised throughout the tournament.

Former England captain Gary Lineker said on his podcast, The Rest Is Football, following Sunday’s game that Southgate’s players looked like ‘lost souls’ struggling to adapt to their manager’s ‘alien’ tactical plan.

Despite their team losing on Sunday, two Slovakia players received strong ratings of 7/10 from L’Equipe. They were midfielder Stanislav Lobotka and forward Ivan Schranz, who found the net in the 25th minute to fire his side in front.

Turkish referee Halil Meler also got 7/10.

Going forward, Walker delivered just one cross – four fewer than Trippier – and he completed 87.8 per cent of his 82 attempted passes.
