Kyle Walker faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a fractured elbow. 

The right-back sustained the injury in training and AC Milan made a rapid decision to get him treated. 

It leaves the 34-year-old sweating over how long he will be out, with just seven Serie A matches left and potentially two Coppa Italia games. 

Milan reserve an option to buy the Manchester City loanee and he will hope to do enough to impress them after claiming the move was needed to ‘re-energise the love I have for football.’

A club statement read: ‘To ensure better healing and optimise recovery time, the player underwent surgery in Milan through osteosynthesis. 

‘The operation went perfectly to plan. Kyle will begin rehabilitation immediately.’

He has expressed a desire for a ‘different challenge’ but has left the door open to returning to Manchester City 

Osteosynthesis is a surgical technique aimed at joining bone fragments together after a fracture. 

Walker has had a busy introduction to la dolce vita, making 12 appearances with Milan in the hunt for a European spot and the Coppa Italia trophy. 

He recently tsaid on the Kyle Walker Podcast that he ‘couldn’t say no’ to the opportunity of moving to the San Siro. 

‘In football, I think when certain things come, or certain opportunities come, you have to take it,’ Walker said.

‘And for me to experience a different league, for me to experience a different culture, for me to play for a club like AC Milan… I don’t think you can turn that down.

‘And when you know they want you, or you want to go there, and you want to have a new challenge, I think there are certain clubs in the world that you kind of can’t say no to.’

However, he has also left the door open to a return to Manchester City.

Walker was exiled from the matchday squads after telling Pep Guardiola that he wanted to leave in January. 

His wife, Annie Kilner, has remained living in the United Kingdom with their four children

The England international, whose deal at City expires in 2026, said he needed to ‘try something different’.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia were also linked with signing him, but he could yet honour his contract with City. 

‘After I said my goodbyes, Pep [Guardiola] got up and spoke and said a really nice message to me, just saying thank you for everything,’ Walker said on his BBC podcast.

‘But listen, it’s not over. I’m just on loan here. I’ve got to take that into consideration that I can go back. Obviously, both parties need to come to an agreement come the end of the season and. The chapter’s not fully closed, we’ll see what happens.’

His wife Annie Kilner and their four children have visited him but have remained living in the UK.
