Kylian Mbappe ‘has not been paid his salary for April and is still owed a bonus from February’ as his PSG exit turns sour ahead of expected free transfer to Real Madrid this summer

Kylian Mbappe’s imminent PSG exit appears to have turned sour following reports that he is owed money by the French giants.

The 25-year-old finally confirmed earlier this month that he will leave PSG this summer, and he is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

Mbappe won the Coupe de France in his final match on Saturday, but it seems all is not well behind the scenes between Mbappe and PSG.

According to L’Equipe, Mbappe was not paid his salary for April and he is yet to receive a bonus that dates back to February.

L’Equipe’s report states that PSG not making these payments to Mbappe has saved the club in the region of €80m (£68m).

PSG’s lawyers and Mbappe are now trying to negotiate the player’s departure from the club following a difficult last 12 months for the forward.

Mbappe was left out of PSG’s pre-season tour of Asia last summer amid uncertainty over his future, and was then put on their list of ‘undesirables’ and made to train away from the first team for refusing to sign a contract extension.

He subsequently agreed to stay for another year and was reintegrated into the squad by manager Luis Enrique.

Mbappe put the speculation surrounding his future to one side as he scored 44 goals in 48 matches in 2023-24, leading PSG to the Ligue 1 title, French Cup and Champions League semi-finals.

But, as it became increasingly likely that he would leave the club at the end of the season, Mbappe was regularly substituted in matches by Enrique, leaving the winger visibly frustrated.

He did not feature at all in either of PSG’s final two league games, as Enrique opted to rotate his squad with the title already wrapped up.

Mbappe looks set to leave PSG with the blessing of his team-mates after throwing a farewell party for 250 guests last week in Paris, but his relationship with the club appears more strained than ever.

He is already preparing for life in Madrid, having reportedly bought a £15m mega-mansion in the Spanish capital.

His move to the Spanish giants could be announced prior to Euro 2024, with Mbappe set to lead France at the tournament in Germany 18 months on from their agonising World Cup final defeat by Argentina.
