  • Mbappe reportedly nearly held a press conference to make an angry statement

Kylian Mbappe was so enraged at Olivier Giroud for his comments about the pair’s link-up on Tuesday night that he wanted to make an angry statement in a press conference on it, according to reports.

Les Bleus beat Bulgaria 3-0 at the Stade de France in their final friendly before this summer’s European Championships, with Giroud coming off the bench to score twice and move to within five goals of Thierry Henry’s all-time France record.

But the Chelsea striker came out after the game and claimed that Didier Deschamps’ side could have linked up better up front and Giroud’s looked visibly annoyed at Mbappe in the second-half.

And according to L’Equipe, the Paris Saint-Germain was livid that Giroud claimed that some team-mates did not give him the ball enough – and Mbappe was willing to go public with his frustrations.

After the victory over Bulgaria, Giroud told reporters: ‘Sometimes you make the runs and ball is not arriving. Perhaps we could have found each other better, there it is.’

France boss Deschamps cooled down the situation after the match and refused to blame either player, saying: ‘If you received the ball after each time you called for it, it is always the same.

‘The attacker says: “I am making runs, but it’s on the midfield.” The midfielders will say that it is on the attackers. Sometimes, the pass isn’t forthcoming, sometimes it is down the movement. But this is not a stigmatisation of Kylian or whoever.’

Meanwhile, Mbappe’s frustrated body language during the Bulgaria victory was criticised by former France international Jean Micoud, who accused the Paris Saint-Germain winger of being ‘all about you’ even when the team is doing well.

Speaking about Mbappe, Micoud said: ‘It’s becoming embarrassing. And even when he came off.

‘You have just played two warm-up matches, it has gone very well and when he came off the pitch it was as if the team had lost 4-0. At some point it is not all about you.’

Mbappe and Giroud need to get over any rift between themselves quickly as France have a difficult European Championships group in front of them.

Les Bleus faces 2014 World Cup winners Germany on Tuesday before taking on Hungary four days later.

Didier Deschamps’ side also face reigning European Championships winners Portugal in their final group game to determine where they finish in the group.

France are looking to follow Spain’s recent example of becoming champions of both the World Cup and the European Championships in quick succession.
