Kylian Mbappe WILL move from PSG to Real Madrid in the summer according to Nicolas Anelka, who believes the striker will be even more determined to perform against Los Blancos in the Champions League to prove his worth
- Nicolas Anelka is certain Kylian Mbappe will move to Real Madrid in the summer
- PSG turned down a £171million bid from Real for the France striker last year
- Mbappe will be able to join Madrid for free when his contract expires in June
- ‘If he wanted to stay he would have signed a new contract earlier,’ said Anelka
Kylian Mbappe is on his way to Real Madrid and that’s why he has refused to sign a new contract with Paris St Germain, according to Nicolas Anelka.
Real have been chasing Mbappe since he was a teenager and last summer offered PSG a whopping £171million to sign him, even though he only had one year left on his contract.
In a demonstration of their sheer wealth, PSG rejected the bid in the knowledge that they could end up losing Mbappe for free a year later.
Kylian Mbappe is certain to leave PSG to join Real Madrid, according to Nicolas Anelka
Anelka said Mbappe would have already signed a new contract with PSG if he wanted to stay
Mbappe has refused to talk about Real’s interest recently and last week gave a fiery response to a question about the speculation, with PSG welcoming Los Blancos to the Parc des Princes next week in the Champions League.
But Anelka, who played for both Real and PSG, believes there is no doubt that Mbappe will end up at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.
‘I can say that in general when a player wants to leave for free… [he usually does]. If he wanted to stay he would have signed a new contract earlier,’ Anelka told Marca.
PSG sporting director Leonardo (C) and chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi (R) turned down £171m from Real last year to keep Mbappe for one more season
But Anelka does not think that Real’s interest will have any negative impact on Mbappe’s performance when the game kicks off.
‘I think he’ll be at Real Madrid next year. Everyone’s saying he’s going to join Madrid,’ added Anelka.
‘And will he want to make the difference against them precisely to prove he can play at Real Madrid?
Anelka does not think the speculation will affect Mbappe negatively when PSG face Real
‘It’s possible that he will want to leave PSG with his head held high before moving to Madrid, although I don’t know what will be going through his head.’
Anelka also believes that Lionel Messi will rise to the occasion against Real Madrid despite making an underwhelming start to life with PSG.
Messi scored and provided an assist in PSG’s 5-1 win at champions Lille last weekend but had failed to score in his previous five matches.
And the seven-times Ballon d’Or winner has only scored twice in Ligue 1 this season, although he has also netted five times in the Champions League.
Anelka put Messi’s struggles down to the fact he never wanted to move to PSG in the first place but was forced to due to Barcelona’s colossal financial problems.
Anelka also expects Lionel Messi (L) to raise his game against Real after an underwhelming domestic season with PSG
‘I don’t think he wanted to leave Barca. He was obliged to leave and so it’s not easy for him,’ said Anelka.
‘Messi had spent his whole life at Barcelona and it’s not easy to adapt because everything is new for him.
‘It’s a new situation for him but Messi is Messi and in matches like this he always demonstrates that he is a great player and I think he’ll have a good game against Madrid.’
