An L-plater has been slapped with a fine and had their permit suspended after allegedly twice-exceeding the legal speed limit before crashing into a house in western Sydney.
Officers were patrolling Nottinghill Road in Regents Park, western Sydney, at about 5.10pm on Monday afternoon when they detected an SUV allegedly exceeding the speed limit.
Signposted nearby was a speed limit of 50km/h, but the offender, who was driving unaccompanied with L-plates, was allegedly reaching top speeds of 107km/h.
When police turned around to pursue the speeding vehicle, they discovered the driver had left the road and crashed through a fence, hitting a garage at a home only a few metres away.
Inside was an 86-year-old woman, who was not injured during the crash.
However, the crash caused ‘substantial structure damage’ to the garage and front right corner of the building.
‘The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and subjected to roadside breath and drug tests, both of which were negative,’ police said in a statement.

The teenager was slapped with fines totalling $4,324 for the offences of learner-driver estimated speed limit above 45km/h, learner driver not accompanied, and not displaying L-plates.
The driver, who was not injured in the crash, had their permit suspended for six months and had eight demerit points deducted.
