Lachlan Murdoch just spent $29million on an Aspen ranch

When you’re the heir apparent to Rupert Murdoch’s $12billion fortune, $29million just isn’t a big deal.

21st Century Fox’s executive chairman, Lachlan Murdoch just spent that much on a 45-acre equestrian ranch near Buttermilk Ski Area, in Aspen, Colorado, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The 46-year-old Australian-American’s new 13,491-square-foot pad has six bedrooms, six full and two half bathrooms, and massive floor-to-ceiling windows that are so tall they were engineered from skyscraper glass.

The 1,800-foot long driveway and 11-foot glass front door that turns on an axis sets the extravagant tone of the home, which has wide-plank walnut floors, custom chandeliers and cedar wood ceilings.

Right off the entrance is a a formal dining room and an office/library with double-height vaulted ceilings and a black marble chimney.

The huge living room with an arched, cedar-clad ceiling, an ebony stone fireplace and three walls of floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, leads to a terrace with views of Mt. Sopris, Red Mountain and the Continental Divide, according to Variety.

It’s connected to a family room or informal dining area with a modern aesthetic that includes a marble fireplace, and a cedar-clad barrel-vaulted ceiling.

Murdoch will also have plenty of space to entertain his guests outside, as they watch the Aspen landscape from the several multi-level terraces or two outdoor kitchens, and enjoy the many water features and rolling lawns.

In the bathroom, there’s an egg-shaped soaking tub that faces floor-to-ceiling windows and the exquisite Aspen mountains.

As if that weren’t luxurious enough, the walk-in closet opens to a glass-railed balcony.

‘This house has a gorgeous master wing with a million-dollar view from the bathroom,’ Amy Doherty, one of the property’s Douglas Elliman listing agents told the Denver Post.

Murdoch’s guests will also enjoy incredible amenities – all of the bedrooms include spa-like bathrooms, and a 1,550-square-feet guesthouse has an additional two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two-car garage.

The pricey home also comes with a 2,750-square-foot stable block that can house four horses and includes a luxury lounge with a fireplace and bathroom.

‘It’s pretty much done to the same level as the main house in terms of finishes,’ Doherty said of the guesthouse. ‘It’s fully tricked out in terms of the tack room. It has all kinds of saddles.’

And Murdoch got a good deal for the fancy pad, which was listed in March at $49 million, according to Variety.

Tech entrepreneur Mark Schaszberger and his wife, Trami, seem to be the sellers of the massive home, per the magazine.

It should come as no surprise that Murdoch would buy a home in Aspen. Like many rich and famous families, the Murdochs have always enjoyed spending time in the resort town, and Lachlan even attended high school there, graduating from Aspen Country Day School.
