A 66-year old woman was coward punched to the face and robbed inside a church in South Melbourne at around 5 p.m on 5 December.

Victoria Police reported in a statement that the unknown offender then grabbed her handbag before pushing her to the ground in the St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church on Dorcas Street.

The elderly victim was in shock following the incident and spent the night in hospital as a precaution.

CCTV released by Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives revealed that the aggressor fled the scene via the front door. He was seen minutes later leaving a café next door.

The police statement said the offender is Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 30s, tanned skin, short brown hair and a medium build. 

 He was wearing a grey t-shirt, blue three-quarter length jeans and carrying a hat. 

Detectives of Port Phillip CIU  are investigating following the assault and believe these details and the images revealed may be able to assist with their enquiries.
