Lakers star makes stunning gesture after staffer loses family home in LA wildfires

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis has donated $20,000 to a team staffer’s GoFundMe page after his family home was destroyed in the southern California wildfires.

Team videographer Rohan Ali started the donation page on Thursday night, sharing his parents, Gayle and Rasheed Ali, lost their home in the Eaton fire.

Within 19 hours of the page’s creation with an $80,000 goal, the total had climbed to more than $49,000 by midday Friday.

Davis’ donation took care of one-fourth of the goal by himself, with teammate Jarred Vanderbilt also pitching in $4,000.

The Lakers game against the Hornets on Thursday was postponed because of the fires, with more decisions on possibly moving games coming soon.

Each of their next seven games take place in Los Angeles, with six from Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers one road contest between now and January 23 is against the Clippers, who are in the same predicament.

The wildfires have caused mass devastation in the Los Angeles area, with at least 10 dead as a result and widespread loss of property.

The losses include the home of Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

The Lakers’ possible upcoming break comes with them in sixth place in the Western Conference, the lowest playoff spot not having to go through the Play-In Tournament to get to the postseason.

The Los Angeles Kings are out of town for a five-game road trip and postponed Wednesday’s game against Calgary due to the wildfires.

Davis has been with the Lakers since a 2019 trade from New Orleans and is one of the most recognizable big men in the NBA.

Davis is a nine-time NBA All-Star and helped the Lakers win a championship in the bubble in 2020 and was a member of Team USA’s gold-medal winning squad during the 2024 Summer Olympics.
