Landlord to raffle off his successful Newcastle bar

Many Australians dream of owning their own bar but the finances to get it up and running are just too much.

But one New South Wales landlord has decided to give up his successful German beer house and it could now be yours for a one-off payment of just $25.

James Sneddon is the proud owner of Das Hund Haus in Newcastle and instead of putting his successful business for sale, he has decided to enlist his pub as the main prize in a raffle due to take place on August 31.

Despite the roaring success of his bar, Mr Sneddon believes the time is right to move out of hospitality, especially with his wife expecting their second child.

‘I’m selling the business because we have a beautiful one-year-old and are now expecting another in March’, Mr Sneddon told Daily Mail Australia.

And any money raised from the raffle will go towards his joint venture with his partner, who have big plans in the healthcare sector.

‘I am selling the business to fund my startup, online sexual health clinic Stigma Health and invest in my partners groundbreaking venture, Newcastle’s first private spinal rehab.’

The figures of the giveaway are rather remarkable.

Valued at $195,000, Mr Sneddon will hand over a profitable business along with all remaining stock and just for good measure will throw in an additional $30,000 spending money.

The popular bar has embraced true German spirit with not just the beer  but also the food

‘If I sold 100,000 vouchers or one the bar would have to go to the winner’, he admitted.

Das Hund Haus is at the heart of Newcastle’s Hamilton suburb and is lively hub of food, music and good beer that the locals have loved since its introduction.

The unusual idea to raffle off his pride and joy came after taking an interest in another unusual sweepstake.

‘I was exploring the idea for sometime after watching the Beitz family raffle their island resort last year, it resonated with me that this let’s people embrace a dream,’ Mr Sneddon said.

And soon after the raffle was up and running, the Beitz family got in touch and have since been mentoring Mr Sneddon through the process.

They also decided to buy a number of vouchers from their Micronesia base, but there has been interest in the unique concept from even further afield.

‘We’ve had people from Norway, Sweden, the UK as well as a host of other countries buying vouchers.’

Mr Sneddon revealed that if they managed to reach a certain amount of ticket sales, his partner would let him fulfill one of his dreams.

‘My partner has said if I sell 15,000 vouchers I can have my bucks in Las Vegas,’ he told DMA with hope.

With the obvious draw of changing the life of one lucky winner, his longterm goal is to change the lives of so many more.

‘Our next ventures are delivering big healthcare initiatives in Australia, but as with all businesses they need capital, with the injection from this exit hack I know my partner and I are going to do great things, Mr Sneddon said.
