The bodies of an 11-year-old boy and a 74-year-old family friend have been found following a house fire at Lara, near Geelong in Victoria’s south west.

Police and firefighters rushed to the Forest Road North home at about 4.45 on Monday morning as flames consumed the property. 

The younger victim’s 10-year-old brother managed to escape the property and is traumatised, said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Guthrie.

Mr Guthrie said the inferno was a tragic accident and was ‘certainly not suspicious’, while the children’s mother is ‘devastated’. 

Specialist police are investigating after two bodies were found following a house fire in Lara, near Geelong in Victoria’s south west.

Mr Guthrie said an electrical fault did not cause the fire.

Police are still investigating the exact cause.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews shared his condolences. 

‘We will be there to support them with whatever they need,’ he said.
