Las Vegas shooter always berated girlfriend at Starbucks

The man who shot dead 58 people and injured 527 others in Las Vegas on Sunday night was known for berating his girlfriend at their local Starbucks.

Stephen Paddock and his partner, Marilou Danley, 62, were regulars at the Starbucks inside the Virgin River Casino in Mesquite.

But Paddock also had a habit of berating Danley in front of the coffee-chain’s employees, according to Esperanza Mendoza.

Mendoza, who is the supervisor at the Starbucks, told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday that the abuse ‘happened a lot’.

The pair always ordered the same drinks. Paddock would get a venti mocha cappuccino and Danley would get a medium caramel macchiato.

Mendoza said the abuse came when Danley would ask to use his casino card to make the purchase.

The card allows gamblers to use credits earned on electronic gambling machines to pay for souvenirs or food in the casino.

‘He would glare down at her and say, “You don’t need my casino card for this. I’m paying for your drink, just like I’m paying for you,'” Mendoza recalled.

She told the newspaper, that Danley would then cower behind him and softly say, ‘OK’.

‘He was so rude to her in front of us,’ Mendoza said, adding that Paddock always looked ‘like he never slept because of the large bags under his eyes’.

When the horrific news broke that Paddock had killed 58 people and injured 527 others from his suite at the Mandalay Bay, Mendoza said everyone at the Starbucks were shocked.

‘That’s because of what he’d done and because we have been face to face with this man so many times.’

After Paddock gunned down the concertgoers, he then turned a gun on himself.

Police initially sought out Danley following the shooting, but then ruled her out as a person of interest in the case after they discovered she was out of the country.

However, it was revealed on Tuesday that Paddock wired $100,000 to a bank account in the Philippines, Danley’s home country, a week before carrying out the attack.

Paddock sent the money to an account before setting up a sniper’s nest on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel on Sunday.

Law enforcement officials who confirmed the wire transfer to NBC did not reveal who the bank account belongs to.

Danley, who was overseas while her boyfriend committed the worst mass murder in US history, is now on her way back to the US to face questions from the FBI.

On Tuesday, Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo confirmed Danley is a person of interest in the investigation again.

Authorities appeared to rule her out on Monday as it emerged that she was not in Las Vegas at the time of the killing. They have since determined that she was traveling between Tokyo and the Philippines at the time and they now wish to speak to her.

‘The investigation with her is ongoing and we anticipate some information from her shortly.  This investigation has not ended with the demise of Mr. Paddock.

‘I expect a substantial amount of information is to come in the next 48 hours,’ Lombardo said on Tuesday.

Danley is understood to have told police that their romance began earlier this year.
