Las Vegas shooting: Country stars describe Route 91 attack

Fifty are dead and 200 injured after a gunman open fired from a hotel window into a crowd of festival goers in Las Vegas.

Country music star Jason Aldean was closing the Route 91 festival when an unnamed attacker began firing down from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel resort.

Thousands were gathered near the main stage to see Jake Owen, Aldean and other stars perform when automatic gunfire sparked mass panic and chaos.

The popular music event, which also hosted the likes of Sam Hunt and Eric Church, turned into a bloodbath after the chilling event.

Taking to Twitter, many of the stars on the line-up described the horrific events they witnessed.

Jake Owen, who played the main stage before Aldean, tweeted: ‘Praying for everyone here in Vegas. I witnessed the most unimaginable event tonight. We are okay. Others aren’t. Please pray.’

While singer Lauren Alaina, tweeted: ‘Praying for everyone at Route 91. That crowd was one of the best I’ve played for all year. This news is devastating. My camp is home & safe.’

The Brothers Osborne urged revelers to find cover immediately, tweeting: ‘Just hearing about active shooting at Route 91 Festival in Vegas. Take cover and get safe immediately! Prayers to everyone there.’

Singer Lee Brice, who performed on the opening night on Friday, posted: ‘Hearts out to Vegas. Route 91 concert, stage I played two nights ago. Musicians, fans, workers, you are all in our prayers right now.’

Michael Ray said: ‘My heart is breaking we were just there Friday! My prayers are with everyone.’

Aldean was closing the festival when the gunman struck, leaving a chilling death toll that continues to rise.

Meanwhile British Prime Minister Theresa May sent a message via the official Downing Street Twitter account: ‘The UK’s thoughts are with the victims and the emergency services responding to the appalling attack in Las Vegas.’

Police are now looking for a woman named Marilou Danley, whom they believe may have information that could help their investigation. 

She is described as an Asian woman, around four feet 11 inchest tall and weighing 111lbs.

She and the shooter are said to be roommates or companions; their precise relationship has not been explained.
