Latarsha Sanders has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed her two young sons to death as part of a ‘ritual’
A mother is facing charges of murdering her two young sons as part of a ‘ritual incident’, prosecutors say.
Latarsha Sanders, 43, from Brockton, Massachusetts, is alleged to have stabbed Edson ‘Marlon’ Brito, eight, and Lason Brito, five, over 50 times in their apartment.
Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the boys could have been dead as long as two days before she asked a neighbor to call 911 on Monday.
The woman told police in several interviews that she was motivated by ‘voodoo stuff’ and that her 16-year-old daughter ‘wanted a little blood,’ according to the Boston Globe.
She allegedly stabbed her eight-year-old son over 50 times with a kitchen knife, but believed his death failed to complete the ritual so she then stabbed the five-year-old boy, according to prosecutors.
Police and fire responded and went to the apartment on Prospect Street yesterday shortly after noon, where the two boys were found dead with ‘multiple’ stab wounds, Cruz revealed.
‘We believe, based upon her comments, that she was involved in some sort of rituals that she believed in,’ Cruz told reporters after Sanders was charged with two counts of murder.

‘Suffice it to say, it’s something she referred to throughout her life to other people in her family, or at least for the last couple of years… We don’t have a lot of clarity to a lot of the things she was saying at this point.’
Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Jessica Kenny said that Sanders originally blamed her 16-year-old daughter and the teenager’s father for the murders, but then eventually told authorities how she allegedly killed them.
Sanders told police that after she killed the boys, she placed their bodies in their beds and mopped up the blood.
She had never been diagnosed with a mental illness, but her mother Earline told police her daughter is ‘mentally unstable and crazy’ was obsessed with the ‘Illuminati,’ spied on neighbors using a baby monitor, and refused to get help for what the mother considered a major mental illness, according to the Globe.
‘All crime scenes are grisly. But these victims were innocent children. This was a gruesome and disturbing and most of all, a heartbreaking crime,’ Cruz said.
The judge has ordered that Sanders be held without bail.

Cruz said that an investigation into the woman’s motivation is on-going.
Sanders’ next door neighbor Vin Lalli said he saw her sitting on the back steps of the building around noon.
She told another resident in the building to call an ambulance, the Herald reported.
‘The ambulance driver put her on the stretcher and all of a sudden she started screaming and kicking around,’ said Lalli.
‘She was just kind of sitting there and then she was kind of hysterical going in the ambulance.’
