Latrell Mitchell has hit back at Cooper Cronk who accused the NRL star of slacking off training when he was actually protecting his pregnant girlfriend from the coronavirus.
Mitchell was slammed by his former Sydney Roosters teammate after he shared a selfie enjoying the lockdown on a jet ski at Manning River, in northern NSW, on Wednesday.
But it has been revealed Mitchell told his coach Wayne Bennett he wanted to flee Sydney so he could take his 38-week pregnant girlfriend Brielle home to a safe environment with his parents, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Cronk told Fox Sports on Thursday that Mitchell was not putting in the appropriate amount of effort in pre-season training for his new club.
‘If I’m being completely honest at this time of year I’m not happy with Latrell taking time away,’ he said.
‘From my point of view in terms of performance, he’s had a shortened pre-season, it’s Round Two, I think he should be putting that time into getting his body physically prepped for a big season, because he needs to have a big one.’

Mitchell quickly fired back on Instagram where he told Cronk to keep his opinions to himself.
‘I wonder if former teammate and ‘NRL legend’ knew the real reason I took a trip up the highway,’ he said
