South Sydney Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell is steering clear of conducting interviews with the media for the forseeable future, according to reports.

And it seems that the limited spotlight on the 27-year-old superstar appears to be playing a part in helping him actualise his full potential on the footy pitch.

Mitchell enjoyed a stand-out performance on Friday as the Bunnies ran out 20-14 victors against Sydney rivals, the Roosters.

The 27-year-old full-back started at centre and kicked four goals before settting up the match-winning try – ripping an absolutely stunning flat pass out to Isiah Tass on the wing, who crossed over to seal the victory for the Rabbitohs.

On his return to footy for the first time since July 2024, Mitchell claimed three Dally M votes for his composed and classy performance.

But the footy star is, according to Yahoo Sport Australia, avoiding doing interviews or speaking to the media.

It is understood reporters working for broadcasting organisations have reportedly been ‘warned not to automatically expect on-field interviews after games’.

The club also has no plans to place him in front of the cameras for their media opportunities.

It has not been confirmed how long the Rabbitohs expect this situation to go on for.

But the Bunnies were keen to emphasise that this is not a blanket ban on media duties.

A spokesperson for the club said to Yahoo that the player can opt to participate in media opportunities should he wish.

‘He is keeping his head down and has our full support in doing that,’ the Bunnies spokesperson said.

Yahoo Australia adds: ‘He [Mitchell] feels the silent treatment is the best way for him to prepare for games in a policy that is fully enforced by coach Wayne Bennett.’

A little over 12 months ago, headlines had surrounded Mitchell following an expletive-laden post-match interview with Triple M after his side’s loss to Brisbane in the 2024 Las Vegas opening round.

The footy star had raised eyebrows after declaring that he ‘didn’t care’ about how much he had been swearing during the interview.

‘Look, honestly, f***, it was s***,’ he began.

‘In the first bit, it was just a hard game, f**k, we showed what we’re about.

‘Honestly, they’re big boys, they’re competitors. You wonder why they came runner-up last year, so f**k, we can build on that.

‘I don’t care if I’m swearing, boys, honestly.’

The 27-year-old is looking in elite physical shape too, having imposed a booze ban on himself following his torrid 2024 season which ws hampered by injuries and suspensions.
