Laura Anderson has thanked Saint Joseph for saving boyfriend Gary Lucy’s life in a horrific Boxing Day smash as she shares romantic photos from their first Christmas together.

The former Love Island star, 33, who met ex-Hollyoaks actor Gary, 41, filming E4 series Celebs Go Dating, explained the couple ‘aren’t religious’ but she believes a card picturing the Saint, who was married to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, played a part in him surviving the accident.

She dedicated a new post featuring photos of the pair on Christmas Day snuggled up together on the sofa alongside her dog Buddy to Gary, saying ‘I love you my darling and your strength doesn’t go unnoticed.’

Writing on Instagram, she said: ‘Christmas time. It’s always a little bit sad not being able to spend the festive period with everyone you’d like to but here is out first Christmas together.

‘Gary Lucy, I love you my darling and your strength doesn’t go unnoticed.’

Sharing a laminated card that pictured Saint Joseph, Laura added on her Instagram Stories: ‘We’re not religious but thank you Saint Joseph for saving my love.

‘Gary’s gran gave him this. It has words about safety and protection on the other side. I pulled it out his bag yesterday morning just before his accident.’

She asked her 1.4million followers, ‘do you keep anything sentimental with you for protection?’

Former Footballers’ Wives star Gary spent Christmas Day with new girlfriend Laura in her native Glasgow before crashing his car.

The father-of-four ended up at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary hospital on Boxing Day but thankfully was able to leave the same day after only suffering an injury to his knee.

He spent Christmas apart from his children and ex-wife Natasha Gray, who he split from in 2018 following four years of marriage.  

Gary met Laura while filming E4 show Celebs Go Dating and the pair quickly became infatuated with each other.

Laura starred on the series following her split from Another Level singer Dane Bowers, who she had been with for five years.

Gary, who’s from Essex, told MailOnline he hoped Laura would relocate to live with him and he would soon have the opportunity to introduce her to his mum.

He said: ‘I want to bring her back to mine, roast dinner with my mum, because her approval is important, and then chill. I want to get her down to Essex with me. I think she’s an Essex girl at heart.’  

The actor predicted that his children will enjoy getting to know Laura because she’s both a girls’ girl and a tomboy.

Gary added: ‘I know that they’ll get on with her because she’s good fun… she’s just cool. She’s a girly girl and a tomboy rolled into one at different times.’
