Australian model Laura Henshaw’s Oaks Day celebrations have been marred by an unfortunate fashion blip.
The 24-year-old rocked up to Flemington racecourse in a truly head-turning ensemble.
But while posing for cameras, a large navy mark could be seen on the side of her face after her $290 Christie Nicolaides brass earrings rubbed onto her skin.
Oh no! Model Laura Henshaw suffers unfortunate Oaks Day wardrobe malfunction as her $290 brass earrings turn her skin blue
Seen tilting her head to the distance in images from the event, Laura revealed a large blue stain where the earring made contact with her face.
According to the designer’s website, the intricately detailed piece is a ‘handcrafted, hammered brass earring inlaid with agate and acrylic stones and pearls.’
The specific material referenced on her website is listed as ‘polished gold-tone brass.’
According to Refinery 29: ‘That stain is usually a result of a metal in the jewelry reacting with your skin – or something your skin, such as hand lotion.’

‘Copper [contained in Brass] is often to blame. When the acids on your sweaty skin cause copper jewelry to corrode, the process creates copper salts.’
‘These blue-green compounds can leave a mark on your skin in that iconic shade we call “Statue of Liberty Teal”‘ the publication concluded.
While this kind of reaction is also possible via more expensive metals such as sterling silver or gold, it’s uncommon for ‘skin-grade’ brass to have such an effect.
