It comes after Laura insisted she ‘will call out the s**t’ now she has ‘more power’ in the TV world.

The presenter expressed her relief at being a producer on her ITVX series Laura Whitmore Investigates, after having previously just been ‘the face’ of television projects.

The DJ admitted she sees the move as her way of ‘reclaiming my power,’ after having been ‘frustrated’ over having ‘no control’ over the shows she worked on.

In the interview, Laura also revealed she is having therapy after it was offered to her for the first time, and admitted: ‘I never really feel like I fit in!’

The television personality also confessed that perhaps she has never asked for mental health support, because she ‘didn’t want to be seen to be weak.’

Speaking to The Telegraph, Laura said: ‘Sometimes – a lot of the time – your job is to turn up and look a certain way. I’ve worked on shows where I’ve had no control over my script or producing or anything.

‘When I first started on Radio 5 Live, I had comments on Twitter saying, “Why have you got that bimbo on that slot?” […] I never really feel like I fit in anywhere, but does anyone? Once I can add something to the narrative and I’m getting something from it I’ll bl**dy well do it, and I hope I’ll do it to the best ability I can.

‘I have a lovely life, but I will also call out the s**t, because I hope I’ll be able to continue to do this for years and it will get better and I’ll have more power. I’ve definitely got more power now than I did 10 years ago in this industry.’

Laura also revealed she met with a therapist early on in the documentary-making process after it was offered, for the first time in her career.

She confessed: ‘I’ve never had that before and I kind of wish I had done it before now… for any show.’

The former model also considered if she ‘should have asked for help’ rather than waiting for it to be offered, adding ‘because people don’t offer things.’

But, she admitted: ‘maybe [I] didn’t want to be seen to be weak, so I didn’t,’ adding: ‘The more I work in TV the more I will be like, ”I’m finding this really hard”.’
