Lauren Southern charged $68,000 by Australian police to cover tour

Right wing activist and YouTube commentator Lauren Southern will have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for police to guard her speaking tour which kicks off on Friday.

Miss Southern, 23, landed in Australia last week ahead of her speaking tour and it was revealed by The Herald Sun that tour organisers will be charged $68,000 for police presence at her events.

Victoria Police emailed The Herald Sun to say that the quoted cost of security for the event is actually $230,000 but will only charge Miss Southern and event organisers $68,000.

The police statement said Victoria Police have a right to charge for a police presence at events however Ms Southern and event organisers have said they did not request the security.

Her tour management will fight the bill which was imposed after violent far left activists turned the streets of Melbourne into a bloody scene when far right activist Milo Yiannopoulos arrived in Melbourne for his speaking engagement.

In the lead up to her talk in Melbourne Miss Southern took to the streets to ask strangers if ‘Lauren Southern should be killed’.

While a number of people questioned were against murder, it seemed like many had not heard of the right wing activist or had only heard the name in passing.

A number of them told her they had no idea ‘who Lauren Southern is’.

However one man notices right away that the person speaking to him was indeed Lauren Southern.

‘You’re Lauren Southern, the YouTuber…aren’t you?’ he asks.

‘I don”t even know who that is,’ another woman said.

Miss Southern took to Twitter on Thursday, the same day her new video was spotted, praising her experience in Australia so far.

‘I actually really love Australia and there have been so many lovely people in Melbourne. Mostly supporters – keep strong Silent Majority!’ she wrote.

Her tour will begin on July 20 in Melbourne with the venue yet to be named.
