Shoppers have been urged to check their kitchen cupboards, after a potato product was found to put those with allergies at risk.

Supermarket Aldi has issued an urgent recall on Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter.

This is because it contains milk not mentioned on the label—which poses a possible risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.

The food safety watchdog has told the supermarket to contact the relevant allergy organisations to inform their members.

Customers are asked to return the product to their Aldi store where they will receive a full refund.

In a statement, Aldi said: ‘We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.’

Regulator the Food Standards Agency, which publishes the alerts, issues recalls when problems are spotted with food that could be potentially harmful to consumers.

They have warned those who have bought the product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, not to eat it.

More to follow.
